How to install, upgrade and buy Release Management for Visual Studio
Earlier this year, Microsoft acquired InCycle's release management tool, InRelease. There have been a lot of questions during the transition period, so I compiled a FAQ:
Q: InRelease, Release Management, all of these names are confusing! What's the actual name of the product now?
A: The name "InRelease" is no more! The official name is Release Management for Visual Studio 2013.
Q: When will it be available?
A: It was officially released on November 13th, 2013.
Q: Where can I get it?
A:Two ways:
- If you're an MSDN subscriber, you can get it from your MSDN downloads page.
- If you're not an MSDN subscriber, you can get it from www.visualstudio.com
Q: What's the licensing situation like?
A: licensing information is now available. In a nutshell, you purchase licensing depending on how many servers you intend to deploy software to.
Q: What versions of Team Foundation Server are supported?
A: It fully supports Team Foundation Server 2010, 2012, and 2013.
Q: Is Release Management a great product?
A: Yes! (Sorry, couldn't resist)
Of course, if you're interested in getting started with Release Management, InCycle can help you out! You can contact us or view our release management services, and we'll discuss what we can do for you!
Happy releasing!
