Visual Studio 2013 Launch Event in New York

Yesterday I had the privilege of attending the Visual Studio 2013 launch event in New York. Microsoft pulled out all of the stops to put on a great event. Having already seen Visual Studio 2013 and Team Foundation Server 2013 I was wondering what new and exciting things they would have to announce. Well, I was not disappointed.

Here are just a few of the highlights:

• Visual Studio Online now provides a rich collection of developer services in the cloud that work with your Visual Studio IDE on the desktop.
• Microsoft and Xamarin are collaborating to help .NET developers broaden the reach of their applications to additional devices, including iOS and Android
• Hosted source control, work item tracking, agile planning, build and load testing services that were part of Team Foundation Service are now available in public preview as part of Visual Studio Online
• Visual Studio Online Application Insights is a new service that provides a 360 degree view of your applications health, based on data about availability, performance and usage
• Visual Studio Online “Monaco” is a light weight, browser based coding environment that can be used for targeted Azure development scenarios
• You can now use your Active Directory accounts to login to Visual Studio Online.
